Performance Wheels

Equus has been engineered for performance from the ground up. 19-inch chrome alloy wheels with staggered-width performance tires (P245/45R19 in front and P275/40R19 in the rear) not only give the Equus a formidable look, but ensure superior handling.

Forward-view Cornering Camera

Equus offers a forward-view cornering camera. From its vantage point at the top of the grille, the camera provides an added helpful view to assist you in negotiating tight alleys and parking spaces. The wide-angle image is displayed on the central in-dash navigation screen at low parking speeds, then switches back to the navigation mode at higher driving speeds.

Advanced HID Xenon Headlights

Stylish LED turn-signal indicators frame the front Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights. The Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFLS) turns with the vehicle's steering angle so that upcoming curves and intersections receive maximum illumination. The sophisticated auto-leveling headlights also keep light parallel to the road surface regardless of vehicle load. The result is that the driver enjoys maximum illumination and light coverage at all times.

Chrome Accents

Equus has full-body integrated chrome accents to highlight the exterior. A strong horizontal grille and 19-inch chrome alloy wheels set the tone, while chrome insert moldings on the bumpers and door handles complement the exterior design. A chrome lower-bodyside accent and fascia-integrated dual, asymmetrical chrome exhaust tips finish off this exceptional look.

Luxury redefined.

Starting with 17 speakers standard (more than BMW and Mercedes- Benz), the Lexicon 7.1 Discrete Surround Sound Audio System includes a 13-channel digital amplifier that produces 608 watts of distortion-free music. The audio experience delivers higher highs, lower lows and rich mid-range for audiophile-level quality. It also has SiriusXM Satellite Radio with over 170 digital channels, HD Radio™ technology, and iPod®/USB and auxiliary input jacks.

A performance vehicle wrapped in luxury features.

The 2013 Equus from Hyundai - Luxury Performance

The Equus is powered by an award-winning Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 429-horsepower V8 engine. The advanced 8-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth power in an instant or efficient interstate touring as the driver demands. And a well-balanced, rear-wheel-drive layout gives Equus the foundation to perform less like a traditional luxury car and more like a high-performance sports sedan.

The Tau® 5.0L V8 has earned a Ward's 10 Best Engines award for 2012. The high-pressure die-cast engine block is entirely aluminum. A Tuned-Induction System (TIS) maximizes power, while Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) improves both low-end torque and high-end horsepower. Further details like the timing chain drive system, serpentine belt and iridium double-tipped spark plugs help make Equus one of the most fuel-efficient luxury cars in its class.

8-speed Automatic Transmission

Hyundai engineers designed this high-performance transmission with precise gear ratios and lightweight components to make it highly responsive and a perfect complement to the Tau 429-hp V8. Whether in automatic or SHIFTRONIC® manual-shift mode, it also has the capability to achieve torque converter lock-up above first gear which dramatically closes the fuel-efficiency gap between automatic and manual transmissions.

Rear-wheel Drive

The very nature of rear-wheel drive shifts the Equus closer to a more ideal 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution. This means the engine, transmission, driveshaft and rear differential provide better dynamic balance. The larger rear tires and springs take on their fair share of the workload, offering a smoother, more stable ride, with greater maximum stopping power and enhanced handling and traction under hard acceleration.

Electronic Air Suspension

An available upgrade on the Lexus LS 460, Electronic Air Suspension is standard on the Equus. This system helps maintain consistent vehicle height and pitch regardless of load and road conditions, resulting in a consistent, comfortable ride.

Continuous Damping Control

Much more sophisticated than typical shocks, CDC is an electronic damping system that noticeably increases ride comfort and overall driving dynamics at the same time. Sensors monitor values for body, wheel, and lateral acceleration, then use them to generate the ideal damping forces for each wheel on a continuous basis. This minimizes body roll and makes acceleration and deceleration stable, steady and smooth. Like a more high-performance feel? Select Sport Mode with sport-level damping for a firm, more responsive ride.

Safety isn't a luxury, it's a right.

The Safety of the 2013 Equus from Hyundai

Nine airbags. A Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system that includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), plus some of the best-known acronyms in the automotive safety business. Safety isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.

Hyundai has always been committed to safety. Equus steps up this tradition with nine airbags, reinforced unibody construction and an entire Vehicle Stability Management system tasked with making sure all active and passive safety features work optimally.

Vehicle Stability Management System (VSM)

VSM optimizes the function of all active and passive safety features. VSM incorporates ESC, TCS, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and a Lane Departure Warning System. The comprehensive Vehicle Stability Management system links and prepares all safety systems in potential collision situations. This fully integrated system also incorporates the electronic parking brake, Smart Cruise Control, seatbelt tensioning system, instrument panel warning lights and alerts for the Lane Departure Warning System.

Smart Cruise Control

SCC detects vehicles within a driver-specified distance, and automatically maintains a consistent following distance. Operating like your normal cruise control when no other vehicles are near, radar judges the distance and speed of vehicles in front of you, and accelerates or brakes to help maintain a driver-selectable distance.

Traction Control System

By reducing wheelspin in various adverse traction conditions, including inclement weather, Traction Control gives more stable and predictable acceleration characteristics for a more confident, controlled driving experience.

Anti-lock Braking System

Emergency braking maneuvers can cause a vehicle's wheels to lock up and skid, resulting in a loss of steering control exactly when you need it most. ABS helps prevent the possibility of wheel lockup under braking, and rapidly pulses the brakes to help you retain steering control as you come to a stop.

Brake Assist

In emergency braking situations, many drivers may not apply sufficient braking force to achieve the shortest possible stopping distance. Brake Assist helps detect emergency braking and ensures the maximum braking force is immediately applied to minimize stopping distances.

Unibody Frame

An ultra-high-strength steel unibody with energy-dispersing crumple zones forms the core of the Equus passive-safety system. The reinforced steel frame enhances safety and handling by creating a more rigid and lightweight body structure. Crash-durable adhesives in critical areas increase dynamic torsional rigidity, enabling better ride, handling and increased safety.

9 Airbags

Equus has more standard airbags than the Lexus LS 460 or the BMW 750i. Nine total. Two advanced dual front airbags; a driver's knee airbag; four front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags; and two roof-mounted side-curtain airbags for front- and rear-seat passengers.

Electronic Stability Control

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration analysis estimates that passenger cars equipped with ESC may experience 35% fewer single-vehicle crashes, and 30% fewer single-vehicle fatalities.* ESC sensors measure the difference between a driver's intended path - when a turn is less or more than intended - and applies appropriate brake-force to individual wheels to help regain control. ESC also includes Traction Control System (TCS), which reduces wheelspin when accelerating.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution

EBD balances braking forces at each wheel when the car is dynamically loaded. This helps the driver maintain confident control in difficult braking situations.

Lane Departure Warning System

The available Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) alerts drivers of unintended lane changes. Audible, visual and haptic warnings are triggered to restore the driver's attention in cases where the car drifts or changes lanes without using a turn signal.
